Ebiil Society New PacIOOS Partner

The Ebiil Society is our newest Palau MOA partner. The Ebiil Society’s main goal is the education of environmental protection and proper management of natural resources through indigenous knowledge. Ebiil Society, Inc. derived its organization name through a group of community members in Ngarchelong State who came together to advocate for continuity of a permanent conservation of the Ebiil Channel, which has been documented as an important aggregation site for groupers and other species of fish. Current projects include terrestrial management/reforestation, turtle monitoring, marine debris monitoring and education, and summer camps which teach indigenous knowledge about environment, culture, and tradition. For their Forest and Watershed Restoration Program, PacIOOS is providing the Ebiil Society with a nearshore sensor through the Water Quality Sensor Partnership Program.
