DART Tsunami Reporting Stations

To ensure early detection of tsunamis and to acquire data critical for real-time forecasts, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other international partners have placed Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunami (DART) stations at sites in regions with a history of generating destructive tsunamis. DART systems consist of an anchored seafloor bottom pressure recorder (BPR) and a companion moored surface buoy for real-time communications. The pressure values are corrected for temperature effects and converted to an estimated water column height (height of the ocean surface above the seafloor).

time period: current; refreshes every 5 minutes during an event or every 6 hours otherwise.
