Pantropical Spotted Dolphin Sightings

Cascadia Research Collective (CRC) has been undertaking surveys for odontocetes in Hawaiian waters since 2000. Pantropical spotted dolphins are among the most frequently encountered odontocetes in Hawaiʻi, using both shallow and deep waters. Genetic evidence indicates three separate island-associated populations, off Oʻahu, the four islands (Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe), and Big Island (Hawaiʻi).

Dr. Joseph Mobley of the Marine Mammal Research Consultants (MMRC) led aerial surveys for cetaceans in Hawaiian waters from 1993-2003.
