This directory contains an archive of JPG photographs documenting king tides
across American-affiliated Pacific islands. These data serve as a critical
resource for researchers, policy makers, and community members to better
understand the potential impacts of sea-level rise and other coastal hazards.

When sharing these photographs, please cite this project with the following
attribution:

The file naming convention is as follows:

http://www.pacioos.hawaii.edu/king-tides/photos/<region>/(<island>)/<yyyy>/<mm>/kingtides_<yyyymmddhhMM>_<uniqueid>.jpg

Where:

    <region>: Region where photo was taken. Includes one of:
        cnmi: Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
        guam: Guam
        hawaii: State of Hawaii
        nwhi: Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
        rmi: Republic of the Marshall Islands
        samoa: American Samoa
        other: Other regions or unknown 

    <island>, optional: some regions have sub-folders by island; currently,
        this applies only to Hawaii: e.g., kauai, maui, oahu, etc.

    <yyyy>: four-digit year
    <mm>: two-digit month
    <dd>: two-digit day
    <hh>: two-digit hour on 24-hour time scale
    <MM>: two-digit minute
    <uniqueid>: a six-character unique text string identifier to ensure no
        two photos for the same date and location have the same filename.

Example:

The following example is for a photo from Oahu in the State of Hawaii taken on
July 3, 2016 at 15:24 (3:24 PM):

NOTE: All datetimes are assumed to be local to the photo's location. However,         
this is dependent on the camera settings of the user submitting the photo.

Additionally, a series of pre-generated thumbnails in various sizes are
provided for convenience underneath the following base directory:

These are provided in three different maximum width/height pixel sizes: 160px,
320px, and 640px for small, medium, and large thumbnails, respectively. The
file naming convention for these mirrors the original (full resolution) photo
image file. Using the above photo to illustrate:
