Abstract:
The nearshore sensors are part of the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) and are designed to measure a variety of ocean parameters at fixed points. Three separate sensors were used to monitor Pokai Bay on the Waianae coast of the Leeward (West) Shore of Oahu in the State of Hawaii. Site 2 (nss_cwb_005_002) was located in the central part of the bay, about 250 m (820 ft) from shore. The sensor package was mounted to the sea floor at approximately 4.2 meters depth. Coastal waters in Pokai Bay were analyzed to understand the persistence of pollutants under varying conditions from August 9 to September 11, 2024. Conducted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Oceanography for the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) Clean Water Branch (CWB).
