Time Zone Support

Users can now specify different time zones. All time-related elements within the overlay menu now have a clickable time zone. Clicking on the time zone produces the pop-up window shown below. The time zones listed include common time zones within each of our core PacIOOS regions. In addition, users can select any arbitrary time zone from a pull-down menu of UTC offsets. Lastly, users visiting Voyager from outside of our supported regions will see an option for their Local Time (LT), which is the time zone on their computer as identified through their Web browser. The example below shows Local Time for a user visiting from Pacific Standard Time (UTC-08:00):

For convenience, Voyager’s default time zone is now set to the user’s time zone rather than Hawaiʻi Standard Time (HST). Secondly, when filtering the interface by a specific region (e.g. Guam), Voyager will automatically change to that region’s time zone (e.g. ChST). Lastly, the currently selected time zone is captured in the map’s URL when clicking on the “link” tool in the upper-right so that it gets automatically selected when revisiting the site.

PacIOOS is the first regional association that was certified as a Regional Information Coordination Entity (RICE) by the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). Certification provides NOAA and its interagency partners a means to verify that a regional association’s organizational and operational practices, including data management, meet recognized and established standards set by NOAA.
