Bottlenose Dolphin Sightings

Cascadia Research Collective (CRC) has been undertaking surveys for odontocetes in Hawaiian waters since 2000. Genetics and photo-identification of common bottlenose dolphins has documented four small island-associated populations in Hawaiʻi, with separate stocks off Kauaʻi/Niʻihau, Oʻahu, the four islands (Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe), and Big Island (Hawaiʻi).

Dr. Joseph Mobley of the Marine Mammal Research Consultants (MMRC) led aerial surveys for cetaceans in Hawaiian waters from 1993-2003.
