Cuvier's Beaked Whale Sightings

Cascadia Research Collective (CRC) has been undertaking surveys for odontocetes in Hawaiian waters since 2000. Photo-identification and satellite-tagging indicate a small resident population of Cuvier's beaked whales off the island of Hawaiʻi (Big Island). Less is known about this species off other islands.

Dr. Joseph Mobley of the Marine Mammal Research Consultants (MMRC) led aerial surveys for cetaceans in Hawaiian waters from 1993-2003.
