Projects : U.S. Pacific Islands Ocean Collaboration
Promoting Pacific Ocean Collaboration Across U.S. Affiliated Islands
Why This Is Special
Did you know that the United States has one of the largest Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the world?
Of that EEZ, one-third (1/3) resides within the U.S. Pacific Region (source: Sea Around Us).
The U.S. Pacific Regional Ocean Partnership (PROP) Data Sharing Initiative receives funds from NOAA, through the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS), to improve data, data accessibility, and data products or platforms for the U.S. Pacific Islands.
Better Maps For Better Decisions
This is a partnership with the Governors of the U.S. Pacific Islands Region from the State of Hawaiʻi and the U.S. Pacific Islands jurisdictions of American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI), and Guam. These partnerships aim to coordinate management of ocean and coastal resources and implement priority actions, including data sharing and integration. A focused initiative of data sharing works to identify coastal and ocean management priorities that require a coordinated regional response and increased collaboration. The PROP website, linked below, integrates data products, information, and visualization tools from different sources, including Federal and State government, non-government organizations, and PacIOOS.

Si Yu’os ma’åse! Fa’afetai! Mahalo!
This work focuses collaborations with governments, stakeholders, and project partners. Together, we aim to characterize the specific management and policy decisions among our target stakeholders that could benefit from improved data sharing and/or new data sets. Subsequent contributor generosity in both time and resources foster a collaborative culture throughout the region.
